Description

These Banana Waffles are soft, fluffy, and bursting with sweet banana flavor. Perfect for a cozy breakfast or brunch, they’re naturally sweetened with ripe bananas and have a hint of warm cinnamon. Whether topped with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup, these waffles are a delicious way to start your day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups (6.75 oz) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1¼ cups (10 oz) buttermilk (or milk with 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • ¼ cup (2 oz) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Optional Add-ins:

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
  • Pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth

Instructions

  1. Preheat Waffle Iron:
Heat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions and lightly grease with non-stick spray or melted butter.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Prepare the Wet Mixture:
In another bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Combine:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix—the batter should be slightly lumpy for fluffier waffles.
  5. Cook the Waffles: 🍌🧇
Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron (about ½ cup per waffle depending on your waffle maker). Close the lid and cook until golden brown and crisp, typically 4–5 minutes.
  6. Serve:
Serve warm with your favorite toppings: sliced bananas, fresh berries, chopped nuts, whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

  • Ripe Bananas: Use bananas with plenty of brown spots for the best natural sweetness.
  • Make Ahead: Freeze leftover waffles in a single layer. Reheat in a toaster for a crispy texture.
  • Vegan Option: Replace eggs with flax eggs, use almond milk, and coconut oil instead of butter.
